I just installed and fired up Picasa2. I haven't used it in a while. It seems to have gained a few features. I liked Picasa before Google acquired it. I used it for a time. I stopped using it when I found the thumbnail database to be around 1 GB. I felt it was sucking up a little too much room. I've put it on various systems I use from time to time.
I guess I don't really use a photo management software at the moment. I used to use ACDSee for a time. I think it was around version 5 or 6. I think they are on version 8 or 9 now. I liked it, but I thought it was getting bloated. I just use Windows and Fax Viewer. If you have your photos organized well, I think it's a good choice. It's quick and you don't have to install anything to use it. It's pretty featureless, but I don't really care.
I do have few things on the computer that I could use for photo management, but I don't like most of them because of speed or usability issues. Picasa2 is a nice program, but the usability SUCK!! I generally like Google stuff and use them all the time. (Yeah, I know you sacrifice privacy...) They have an army of programmer, so I figured they might have improved Picasa2. I couldn't have been more wrong. I tried to do a few simple things, but the damn program is annoying to say the least. Whoever is working on the usability on that thing needs to be take out back and shot. (Yes, I am just kidding.) Seriously, the damn thing is pretty worthless. It's a pain in the ass to add photos to albums, you can't select multiple folders, and the scroll goes on and on. I guess I could go on, but I think you get the picture. What hope do we have for some usable software when Google puts out such shitty software. Are they just getting too big and complacent? Hey Google, I'll tell you what's wrong that piece of shit if you'd just fix it and turn it into something usable.
Now only if I can find some easy to use and lightweight photo management software for some light management...
